Colors of Hope Hamptons

Peace House Africa, a non-profit organization committed to educating AIDS orphans in East Africa is honoring me at the Colors of Hope Hamptons charity benefit to help raise awareness for the foundation’s objectives. I’m a firm believer that all children deserve an education so they can build a better future for themselves and their community, PHA is an amazing organization in that it helps provide the tools these children need to do so. I'm so grateful to be involved in this non-profit's mission of giving hope, care, education and technology resources.

The event, which will take place at a private estate in Southampton, New York, will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2010. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to Peace House Africa.

Earlier this week I wrote an entry for Dear Daily, about my travels through Italy, Turkey, and the Black Sea (you guys got a first look at my travel photos on Minkette). You can check out my full recap of the trip on the Daily Front Row site and see a few more pics of my vacation. Oh, how I wish I could go back to Europe tomorrow! I loved every minute of it.

Speaking of travel, fellow RM fan Therese recently sent over pics of her Europe trip posted below and they're adorable! She ventured to so many great sights with her sis sporting RM bags. Buckled Up

A ton of new stuff has been added to our online shop! We're really excited about the groups that feature our new custom buckles. The new hardware is multi-faceted and originally inspired by military buckles, but reinvented for that super-edgy RM feel. I'm excited to announce the launch of men's accessories! Named Ben Minkoff, after my grandfather -- a World War II fighter pilot, the line features three classic bags used by the Air Force in the 1940s - the map, mail, and motorcycle bags.

The first samples arrived this morning. I have to say -- they look awesome! Here I am with co-designer, Ben Shulman, going through the bags. Gavin also stopped by to check the new line out. The bags hit stores Spring 2010.

We haven't done a music post in a while, so we thought we'd use today to let you know that The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are one of our fave bands of all time, 100% of the time, every time. They just released a new single, Say No to Love, and if the cover art doesn't give you butterflies in your stomach already, just check out this precious video they did and listen to the song.

Istanbul

I'm back from my amazing trip and I realized I still owed you all a post from Istanbul! This city was huge and full of so many beautiful sights. My favorite pictures were the ones I took in the Bazaar (the Grand Bazaar, to be exact). The Grand Bazaar is one of the biggest and oldest (since 1461!) markets in the world. It covers 58 streets and is full of spices, food, jewelry, leather goods and the list goes on and on.

The pictures above (from left to right) are traditional olive oil soaps, a woman kneading dough for yummy handmade bread, a man making the freshest pita in the world and a shot of Zincirli Hani, one of the prettiest courtyards I've ever seen - we took a break from shopping there to admire the architecture.

More from the bazaar above are the brightly colored spices and teas (they smelled wonderful) and a 100% satin Versace sheet set, how regal! After the market we checked out the famous Hagia Sophia (back in the day - a Cathedral of Constantinople) and now a museum where you can see its golden mosaics (like the one on bottom left). Not far from the Hagia Sophia are the 1500 year old cisterns (bottom right) which were built beneath the city of Istanbul as a water filtration system for the Great Palace. That's my short and sweet glimpse of Istanbul for ya! xo, Rebecca.

Last Day on the Boat

Here's some quick snaps of the end of our boat trip. It was amazing sailing the Turkish seas, but I have to admit it feels good to be on land now! Above is Gavin and I taking advantage of our last sunbathing opp, the view of our boat (looking up! amazing clear skies during the entire trip), a neighboring sail boat...and the best visitor of all time - the ice cream boat! This guy was fully stocked with all of the Ben & Jerry's and Good Humor bars we could ask for, and trust me...we asked for a lot! I'm in Istanbul now, many more pics to come! xo, Rebecca.
